World Day
of Prayer
24-hour
Prayer Vigil
On the second Thursday of September each year Unity of Gainesville joins the Association of Unity Churches International and Unity School in celebrating our World Day of Prayer. This is the spiritual event of the year with our sanctuary transformed into 15 to 20 alcoves for prayer. Each alcove is focused on a different area for prayer and is different every year.
Beginning at midnight on the Wednesday beginning the event through midnight on Thursday our sanctuary becomes a place for 24 hours of prayer. Night time hours (from midnight to 8:00 AM) are by reservation only. From 8:00 AM through midnight on Thursday we are open to the public.
During this 24 hours of prayer special prayer events happen. A prayer book guides you through the different alcoves which change every year. From Shamanic Drumming, to the laying out of the Peace Flags, to a
Peace Concert on our patio, the day is filled with different activities each year. All events are focused on the myriad ways of praying
as we open ourselves to experience God.
We also invite other people of faith to join us and we welcome those from other churches, temples and mosques who would like to create an alcove for prayer as well. Please contact the church office if you are interested.
